The Music Industry Research Collective (MIRC) is a research collective based in Melbourne, Australia

Our manifesto reads as follows.

We believe music-making is a fundamental human right and social good that everyone should be able to participate in and experience.

As such, this group aims to bring together researchers, practitioners and audiences from across academic disciplines, institutional boundaries and the music industry, with the goal of creating, understanding and participating in musical life.

We value radical inclusivity and are working towards removing barriers toward participation in researching and making music. We value safety for all who interact with the group. We acknowledge that we are working within an increasingly neoliberal and corporatised university structure. As a challenge to this, we offer a space where genuine community and care is fostered to promote greater accessibility to academic work. We encourage activities that are positive for scholarship and for the music community, including those that don’t fall within formal, measurable outcomes demanded by the university as an institution.
