MIRC has launched with a Taylor Swift ‘Fanposium’ organised by PhD candidate and MIRC founding member, Kate Pattison. The Fanposium “[gave] the community the chance to hear from leading music and culture experts on the Taylor Swift phenomenon, and to watch the first Australian public screening of the 2020 Miss Americana documentary” (RMIT News, 9 January 2024).

The event sold out within 24 hours and was a kick-off to the Swiftposium a three day academic conference exploring the significance of Taylor Swift - with our MIRC member Kate playing a key role on the organising committee.

The fanposium panel included fan studies and music industry researchers, Dr Catherine Strong (RMIT) and Dr Liz Giuffre (UTS), along with music writer Cameron Adams and owner/director of Our Golden Friend Lorrae McKenna.
